The TIPMIP working group is thrilled to share some exciting news! We have a new member joining us who will help us deepen our understanding of ocean systems. Please welcome Nicole C. Laureanti, who comes to us from Brazil and brings additional knowledge in geophysical numerical modeling on different scales.

Nicole holds a PhD in meteorology from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil, which is the main scientific contributor to numerical model development in the country. She was also in New Jersey, acting as a visiting researcher for a year, where she collaborated with fellows at Rutgers University and the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL/NOAA). During her career, she has been involved with the Brazilian Earth System Model (BESM/INPE) group, the Eta Regional Atmospheric group, and the Modular Ocean Model group at GFDL. Nicole has made important contributions to the ocean component in the BESM model and also to the development of regional atmospheric and ocean modelling strategies for the South American Continent to increase the knowledge of the ocean currents and provide tools to diagnose the trajectory of oil spills along the Brazilian coastline.
Within TIPMIP, Nicole will be a highly active participant in the topics concerning the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). The mission includes helping with the development and analysis of the domain’s integrations and enabling the central communication between the institutions for the model intercomparison achievements. She also aims to contribute to the Earth System Model developments at PIK and other important relations with sea-ice and the Amazon rainforest. Nicole started very optimistically about what this model intercomparison project has to offer, and looks forward to using all the resources she has to achieve outstanding results!
We welcome Nicole to the group and wish her a good start!
