Immediately following the TIPMIP General Assembly in Tokyo, the team and many of the participants headed a few hours south to Kyoto where they joined for the CMIP community workshop, held at the Kyoto International Center.
The workshop presented numerous opportunities to highlight tipping points, including standalone sessions as well as plenary discussions by TIPMIP lead Ricarda Winkelmann. In 2024, tipping points were named one of CMIP’s key research areas, and the workshop allowed for detailed conversations about the capacities of models to represent tipping, as well as evidence for tipping in different components of the Earth system.
Attending on behalf of TIPMIP were Ricarda Winkelmann, José Licon-Salaiz, Donovan Dennis, Sina Loriani, Nicole Laureanti, Shivani Ehrenfeucht, and Ann Kristin Klose, as well as numerous TIPMIP domain leads and contributors.
