From June 1 to 4, we were invited to join the OptimESM and TipESM annual General Assembly, hosted by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) in Copenhagen. Jose Licon-Salaiz (our data specialist) and Karoline Ramin (our ESM-domain PhD student) headed over to see what our partner projects are up to and to catch up with everyone in person.
We had a wonderful few days filled with inspiring discussions and new connections. With people coming from so many different institutes, fields, and backgrounds, it was the perfect space to swap ideas and look at things from a fresh angle.
A few major things stood out:
- Lots of interest in our data: Both projects are incredibly keen to keep working with TIPMIP. In fact, many researchers have already started diving into the TIPMIP ESM simulations, and some are even playing around with preliminary TIPMIP Ocean results.
- The clock is ticking: IPCC WG1 authors at the meeting were leaning on us to get this analysis moving quickly. They are really eager to see the outcomes and pushed for a swift release of the papers so the results can be used for upcoming assessments.
Our main focus now is finding better ways to coordinate across these projects and making sure the data is as easy to analyze as possible so everyone can get to work.
We are so grateful to have been part of the event. To our partners: thanks for having us, and the next coffee and cakes are definitely on us!
